About the Event
PARALLELS: Legacies in Flux is an exhibition that will showcase works of artists from Bali and China, based on the thematic ground that sees the parallels of the two cultures in the history, development and evolution of their visual art disciplines and traditions that preceded the influence of Western modernism.
Similar to China with the strong ink painting history, Bali has developed its own traditional painting disciplines that are still upheld and practices until present, such as Batuan, Kamasan, Pengosekan and Ubud styles. In recent years, along with the growing discourses of decolonization and diversity in global cultures, artists have been revisiting and recreating traditions with contemporary approaches, including in Bali.
This exhibition is inviting the counterpart from China to present these developments together with the Bali showcase, which will be shown in Ubud, at a new platform called Ubud Art Ground, inaugurated at Batu Kurung Estate, Kedewatan area.
