I Dewa Putu Bedil
I Dewa Putu Bedil was born in Ubud in 1921. He began his artistic journey painting in the traditional Balinese style, focusing on mythological and religious themes. However, after joining the Pita Maha art collective, he began exploring new subjects, particularly scenes from everyday life. Bedil was noted as the youngest member of the group.
In his early works, Bedil often used deep, rich colors accented with brighter tones. Later, he shifted toward softer, pastel hues. He credited this change to his exposure to European paintings introduced by his mentor, Rudolf Bonnet. These pale tones eventually became a hallmark of his distinctive artistic style.
I Dewa Putu Bedil passed away in 1999.
