Jemana Murti

Jemana Murti
(b. 1997, Bali)

Jemana Murti is an Indonesian contemporary artist whose practice explores the intersection of tradition and modernity through digital technology. Deeply influenced by his Balinese identity and the rapid rise of industrial processes, Murti creates wall-based works, sculptures, and large-scale installations that reimagine Bali through a digital lens.

His works function like a “hack” into tradition, challenging how modern production and digital tools reshape cultural continuity. Most of his sculptures are digitally constructed, with up to 80% of the process involving 3D modeling and printing. He refers to his works as “ghosts of the future,” speculating whether AI-generated forms might one day enter sacred spaces like temples. His practice invites reflection on the blurred boundaries between the sacred and synthetic in our hyper-technological era.

In 2022 and 2023, Murti participated in the National Gallery Singapore’s Charity Art Auction. In 2023, he received the Bronze Award at the UOB Painting of the Year competition. His works are held in both private and public collections across Europe, Asia, and Australia, with notable placements at Hotel Tentrem, Louis Vuitton’s flagship store in Jakarta, and Morgan Stanley Singapore. He recently held his first solo exhibition, Digital Echoes of the Past, at Gajah Gallery Jakarta.

“Void” is a disruption in the unity of a traditional form by slicing through a 3D-printed relief with deliberate precision. The brutal cut acts as a moment of rupture—interruptions in myth, memory, and material—inviting reflection on what is lost, hidden, or transformed in the process. By fragmenting sacred and cultural imagery, the works challenge viewers to confront the tension between continuity and change, tradition and reinterpretation, wholeness and fracture.
