男，汉族，1975年出生于四川省广安市岳池县，无党派人士。现任中央美术学院院长，教授，博士研究生导师，十四届全国政协委员，文化和旅游部优秀专家，中央统战部党外知识分子建言献策专家组成员，中国美术馆收藏委员会专家委员。
1992年考入中央美术学院附中，1996年以全国第二名的成绩考入中央美术学院油画系，2000年毕业创作《状态》获中央美术学院“王嘉廉奖学金”优秀毕业创作奖。曾任中国艺术研究院油画院学术秘书长、中国当代艺术院院长助理、《中国艺术时空》杂志社社长。
2017年任文化和旅游部艺术发展中心副主任。2022年任中央美术学院副院长。2023年6月任中央美术学院院长。
Lin Mao
Male, Han ethnicity, born in 1975 in Yuechi County, Guang'an City, Sichuan Province. He is a non-partisan individual. Currently, he serves as the President of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), a professor, and a doctoral advisor. He is also a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), an Outstanding Expert recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, a member of the Expert Advisory Group for Non-Party Intellectuals under the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, and an expert committee member of the Collection Committee of the National Art Museum of China.
In 1992, he was admitted to the Affiliated High School of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. In 1996, he entered the Oil Painting Department of CAFA with the second-highest national score. His graduation work State (2000) won the prestigious "Wang Jialian Scholarship" for Outstanding Graduation Work. He has previously served as Academic Secretary-General of the Oil Painting Institute at the Chinese National Academy of Arts, Assistant Director of the China Institute of Contemporary Art, and Editor-in-Chief of China Art Timespace magazine.
In 2017, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Art Development Center under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. In 2022, he became Vice President of CAFA, and in June 2023, he was appointed President of CAFA

林茂的油画风格融合了写实技法与东方诗意，形成了一种独特的“灰调美学”和乡土精神性表达。横向展开的“平远”式构图源自宋画，但土地切割的几何块面暗含塞尚的结构感。泥土以刮刀厚堆塑造体积，远山则以水墨般的薄涂晕染，实现油彩的“润笔”效果。作品中微妙的玫红与青灰交织，既还原了川南湿润地貌的光感，又消解了写实的物质性，使土地升华为精神原乡的隐喻。
Lin Mao's oil painting style integrates realist techniques with Eastern lyricism, forming a unique "ash-toned palette" and spiritual expression of rural life.
The horizontally extended *flat-expansive composition* derives from Song Dynasty painting, while the geometrically segmented land subtly echoes Cézanne’s structural sensibility. Thickly textured soil, shaped with a scraping knife, contrasts with distant mountains rendered in ink-wash-like translucent glazes—achieving a "moist-brush" effect in oil.
Interweaving delicate rose-pinks and bluish-grays, the work captures the luminous quality of southern Sichuan’s humid terrain while dissolving material realism. This elevates the land into a metaphor for the spiritual homeland.

Served as a division - level cadre at the China - Foreign Cultural Exchange Center of the Ministry of Culture and Director of the Zhongwai Boyi Art Museum (Gallery), while participating in teaching at the First Studio of the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
