Made Gede Putra

 Made Gede Putra (Kajeng)
(born 1984, Gianyar, Bali)

I Made Gede Putra, more widely known as Kajeng, is a Balinese contemporary artist and a member of the "GFive" collective. He graduated from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta in 2008, after completing his studies at SMKN 1 Sukawati. During his time at ISI, he received recognition as Best Sculptor during the institute’s 24th anniversary celebration.

Kajeng is known for his consistent dedication to his practice, working with a range of natural materials such as wood, foam, and stone. He explores the relationships and spatial dialogues between these elements while incorporating rich, saturated colors to produce abstract forms that evoke organic or natural motifs. His work combines strong sculptural technique with a distinctive thematic exploration that speaks to both material and conceptual transformation.

Kajeng has exhibited widely, both in solo and group shows across Indonesia and East Asia. Some notable exhibitions include “Sekala-Skala” at Tony Raka Art Gallery, Ubud (2022); “Special Perception” at Limanjawi Art House, Malang, Central Java (2020); and Triennale Patung “Skala” at the National Gallery of Indonesia, Jakarta (2017). More recently, he participated in “12” at Sika Gallery, Ubud (2023).

Kajeng continues to be an active presence in Bali’s contemporary art scene, known for his thoughtful material choices and a visual language rooted in both tradition and experimentation.

In The Conversation, Made Gede Putra captures the quiet beauty found in simple, natural forms. Composed of earth-based materials—compacted soil, coconut fiber, and limestone—the sculpture embodies a deep connection to the land and a reverence for nature. The work suggests a silent dialogue between elements, evoking harmony, balance, and the sacredness of the natural world.
