Springtime Ramble of Courtly Beauties, 2023
70 x 46 cm
Paper-based Ink Painting with Color

Professor Tang Yongli's work embodies "tranquil expression," merging Tang dynasty courtesan themes with modern freehand spirit. Four Tang-attired women with high chignons and rouge accompany a girl in a spring outing. Their expressive eyes reflect High Tang grandeur, while flowing robes echo Wu Daozi’s "dancing ribbons," rendered through dynamic, liberated brushstrokes.

Garments in vermilion and warm ochre evoke spring’s gentle ambiance. The piece inherits Han-Tang heavy-color traditions yet revitalizes classical elegance with expressive freedom, establishing itself as an exemplar bridging traditional literati painting and contemporary visual language.
