(Dingyou Zhang)
Dingyou Zhang
Dingyou Zhang is currently pursuing her BFA in Gongbi Figure Painting at the School of Chinese Painting, Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), Beijing. Her work draws upon traditional gongbi techniques and silk-based color painting, with a particular focus on bodily experience, female narratives, and the reproduction of imagery in contemporary contexts.
Through a delicate interplay between personal memory, material texture, and the natural world, Zhang transforms perceived “abnormalities” into poetic visual spaces. She weaves landscape, object, and human form into a unique “silken narrative,” creating works that resonate with both cultural history and emotional intimacy.
She has received the Ye Qianyu Scholarship from CAFA and First Prize in the “Art China–UAE Youth Artist Creative Competition,” celebrating the 40th anniversary of China–UAE diplomatic relations. Her work has been exhibited in Beijing, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, and other cities. Zhang continues to explore the poetic potential of traditional media in responding to the evolving dynamics between the body, image, and self-awareness.

Pigment and color on silk
This silk painting belongs to a series that reconstructs fragmented images of Guanyin and elements from daily life through visual collage, exploring the temporal fluidity of imagery. The weathered face of Guanyin appears like a spiritual imprint; when juxtaposed with magnified everyday objects, a dialogue emerges between the monumental and the minute. The work seeks to trace the trajectory of images as they move between human intervention and natural decay—where divinity becomes blurred through erosion, yet reinterpreted in contemporary contexts; where the mundane gains ritualistic presence through enlargement and depiction. In this constant cycle of transmission and misreading, the image is endlessly reborn.
